Betty Mackey is an award-winning garden writer, lecturer, photographer, and small press publisher living near Philadelphia. Combined with a friendly manner, her expertise with words and images helps the audience have an enjoyable experience.
Betty gives demonstrations at the Philadelphia Flower Show and workshops at Longwood Gardens. She's the garden columnist for The Hunt magazine and has written for Organic Gardening, Horticulture, and Green Scene. She is the main author of The Gardener's Home Companion, an award-winning general guide published by Macmillan, and coauthor of Cutting Gardens (Simon & Schuster). Her book Gardening Made Easy from Publications International includes high speed gardening tips.
Betty started B. B. Mackey Books to provide books on specialized subjects. Betty's hardcover publication, Creating and Planting Garden Troughs, by expert rock gardeners Joyce Fingerut and Rex Murfitt, won a Book of the Year 2000 award from the American Horticultural Society. She edited and released Creating and Planting Alpine Gardens, by Rex Murfitt (2005) which won a silver trowel award for writing from the Garden Writers Association. She edits and publishes titles by Monica Moran Brandies, including Florida Gardening: The Newcomer's Survival Manual and Herbs and Spices for Florida Gardens, plus A Cutting Garden for Florida III by Monica and Betty as coauthors. Other authors are Nellie Neal with several books for the Deep South, Alex Pankhurst, and Duane Campbell’s new book of humor, Best of Green Space: 30 Years of Composted Columns.
